The best way to ensure you have a great maternity photography session is to make sure you are comfortable throughout the entire process.

    • Maternity photos are usually taken around the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy, but keep in mind that everyone is different. If you’re a first time mom, you typically won’t show as quickly, so you can schedule your session towards the end of that timeframe. If you’ve been pregnant before, you may show a bit earlier, so you can schedule your session sooner.

    • Pay attention to your body and when you feel would be the best time for you, but also keep in mind that waiting too long could result in you feeling tired and uncomfortable.

    • Maternity session photos can focus on you, or can include your partner, your kids, or extended family.

    • Clothing: Select clothing that will show off your baby bump or silhouette.

    • Energize: Eat something delicious before your session.

    • Bring a Snack: A snack can give you an extra boost of energy and keep your sugar levels even.

    • Shoes: Wear comfortable footwear that will work the best for your photography session location. If you are going to be walking outdoors, bring two pairs of shoes. Change into your nicer shoes when taking the photographs. A flat shoe or low heel is recommended.

    • Stay Fresh: A fresh manicure or moisturized hands always makes your hands look nice while hugging your baby bump in the photographs.

    • Props: Props are welcome. Many couples bring a photograph of the sonogram or baby booties, balloons, and more.

    • Have Fun: Be yourself and enjoy your maternity session.
